The 22-year-old midfielder is spending the season on loan at Villa, but Unai Emery has barely used him in recent weeks — and he has made only one Premier League start in the 2025–26 campaign. Football Insider recently reported that clubs in both the Bundesliga and Serie A are interested in signing Elliott permanently in January.

However, another loan move is now off the table because the youngster has already represented two clubs this season, and insiders claim Liverpool are growing increasingly frustrated with how things have unfolded. Liverpool can recall him in January, but he would only be eligible to join a club whose league calendar overlaps with England’s — such as the MLS or Brazilian Serie A.

Elliott’s deal with Aston Villa includes an obligation to buy if he reaches 10 appearances, but Liverpool are expected to step in long before that happens.

Sources say both Liverpool and Elliott are extremely unhappy with his situation. Talks are scheduled to find a solution, while interest from MLS clubs continues to grow. A move to the United States would be surprising, but several MLS sides are already monitoring him.

Liverpool’s owners, FSG, may even have a built-in option: they also own the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Revolution are located less than an hour from Boston. A short-term MLS loan could keep Elliott playing while keeping him close to FSG oversight.

Since Arne Slot has shown little willingness to use Elliott regularly since taking charge in 2024, a permanent exit in January or next summer increasingly looks inevitable. For now, Liverpool are simply trying to find a better immediate solution for the young midfielder.
