Thomas Frank hailed his players’ mentality and character after Tottenham twice came from behind to earn a hard-fought point against Newcastle United.

A determined Spurs display — led by captain Cristian Romero — produced a late equaliser at St. James’ Park, preventing what would have been their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.

The result offers a timely lift for Frank, whose position has come under pressure following a poor run of form. Having battled through a demanding schedule, the manager was pleased with how his side responded.

“The mentality in the group and the character in the team were incredible today,” he said. “After a tough week, results not going our way, the fourth game in 10 days, the third away game, coming to Newcastle — a very difficult place — we suffered for the first 25 minutes, which you have to expect here. But the last 60 minutes, I really liked that performance.”

Frank praised his team’s bravery and composure on the ball, as well as their resilience after falling behind twice. “Every good team needs to handle setbacks and come back from them, and doing it twice away from home is exceptional. That deserves a lot of praise. There were many promising things — great courage and character. Ending on a high with a strong point on a tough day feels really positive.”

The Danish boss also singled out Romero, who scored both goals — first with a diving header and then with a superb overhead kick deep into stoppage time.

“We can set things up tactically and build strong principles, but sometimes decisive moments come from key players, and Cuti delivered that today,” Frank said. “The bicycle kick was perfect, struck with the shin into the bottom corner. But I think the header is even more impressive — the way he does it is better than many strikers. He put in a top performance overall: defending, on the ball, staying calm, winning duels, and then scoring twice.
