Liverpool ‘Resume Negotiations’ for Key January Signing to Turn Their Season Around

Liverpool have reportedly revived negotiations over a potential January signing that could help turn their season around.

After clinching the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut campaign, the club invested heavily in the summer, bringing in Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong in a spending surge of more than £400 million. However, their preparations were shaken by the tragic loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre, who both died in a car crash in Spain.

The Reds opened the 2025/26 season strongly with five straight wins, but their form has collapsed since, with nine defeats in their last 13 games. With January approaching, reports now claim Liverpool have reopened discussions to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

A proposed £35 million move for the defender fell apart late in the summer when Palace refused to sell without securing a replacement. TEAMtalk now reports that Liverpool are prepared to bid between £25m and £30m for the 25-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Guehi is already free to negotiate with foreign clubs ahead of a potential free transfer next summer, and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also said to be interested in him.

Speaking back in September, Slot admitted Liverpool came close to completing the deal, saying it was no secret they wanted him. He added that the club will always move for players they believe can strengthen the squad, and although missing out was disappointing for both parties, Guehi remains in a strong situation at Palace. Slot concluded by saying the future could hold opportunities for both the player and Liverpool.
