Liverpool have reportedly re-entered direct negotiations to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi ahead of the January window.

The Reds are renewing their pursuit of the centre-back after coming close to securing him in the summer, with the England international now looking like an essential addition for Arne Slot as defensive issues continue to trouble his team.

TEAMtalk claim Liverpool have reopened talks and are willing to put forward an offer in the region of £25–30 million to bring Guehi to Anfield in January.

Liverpool appear ready to step up their efforts after failing to land him in the previous window, though there are mixed reports surrounding the 25-year-old’s future.

The Daily Mail recently listed Manchester United as another club showing interest, suggesting a potential transfer battle could still develop.

Sky Sports have reported that Palace insiders believe Liverpool remain Guehi’s expected destination if he does decide to leave Selhurst Park.

However, The Athletic noted just days ago that the race is still wide open, with Liverpool no longer clear favourites as several other sides monitor him ahead of his contract running down.

Is Liverpool the right move for Guehi?

Guehi is likely to have no shortage of attractive options, raising the question of whether Liverpool is the ideal fit at this moment.

Slot’s side have endured a difficult start to the season and could face a genuine risk of missing out on Champions League football.

Given his quality, Guehi may be able to aim even higher, potentially earning a move to a European heavyweight such as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich — clubs where Champions League football and major trophies are the expectation.

Liverpool, however, need Guehi more than ever, with Ibrahima Konaté nearing the end of his contract and Virgil van Dijk beginning to show signs of decline.
