Liverpool ‘Back in Talks’ Over Massive January Transfer They Believe Can Rescue Their Season

Liverpool have reportedly revived negotiations for a potential January signing that could help rescue their struggling campaign.

After winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s debut season, the club invested heavily during the summer, bringing in major names such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong—signings that pushed their spending beyond £400 million.

However, their title defence preparations were severely derailed following the heartbreaking death of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre, in a car crash in Spain.

Liverpool started the 2025/26 season strongly, winning their first five games, but their form soon collapsed. They have since suffered nine defeats in their last 13 outings. With the January transfer window approaching, reports claim the Reds have reopened discussions to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

Liverpool previously agreed a £35 million fee for Guehi in the summer, only for the deal to fall apart at the last minute as Palace were unable to secure a replacement.

TEAMtalk now reports that Liverpool are prepared to offer £25–30 million for the defender, whose contract expires at the end of the season. With his deal running down, Guehi is now eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs over a pre-contract move ahead of a free transfer next summer.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also said to be monitoring the England international.

In September, Slot addressed the failed summer move, saying:
