Liverpool Enter Shock Battle to Snap Up Everton’s Star Player in a Stunning Twist to the Season
Liverpool are reportedly pushing to sign one of Everton’s standout players in what would be a highly controversial transfer — the first direct move between the Merseyside rivals in over 20 years.
The Merseyside derby remains one of English football’s fiercest battles, with nearly 250 meetings between the clubs. But deals between them are extremely rare. Nick Barmby was the last to cross Stanley Park in 2000 for £6 million — the first such switch since Dick Hickson in 1959.
Now, with the January window approaching, Liverpool are said to be targeting one of Everton’s top talents.
Despite spending £450 million during the summer rebuild, Arne Slot is still eager to strengthen his squad, especially with Liverpool sitting eighth in the Premier League. Ndiaye, who joined Everton for £16.9 million and is only in his second season at the club, has quickly become one of their most valuable players.
After scoring 11 goals in 37 appearances last season on the left wing, Ndiaye has switched to the right this campaign following Jack Grealish’s arrival — and he’s continued to shine. He already has four goals and an assist in the league, including a brilliant solo strike at the Stadium of Light. His defensive work has also stood out, with only England international Elliot Anderson winning possession more frequently.
According to FootMercato, Liverpool have made enquiries about Ndiaye’s availability, even though he only arrived at Goodison Park in 2024. The outlet claims Manchester City, Tottenham, and Liverpool have all asked about the former AS Dakar Sacré-Cœur and Marseille forward, who is high on their list as they look to add a new attacker.
City remain in the market for wide forwards after missing out on Rodrygo due to Real Madrid’s £90 million price tag, and they have also considered Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who has a £65 million release clause active early in January.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are desperate for fresh attacking options as Thomas Frank’s side continues to struggle in the bottom half of the table. Kudus has impressed, but the absences of Maddison, Kulusevski, and Solanke have left Spurs short of creativity. With just one home league win in seven attempts, the club could push for a major signing this winter.
