Liverpool’s manager made a surprising and controversial assessment of his team’s display after the 3–3 draw with Leeds United.
Arne Slot drew criticism for his post-match comments following yet another disappointing result, as the champions dropped points to a newly promoted side for the second time in four days.
After a goalless first half, Liverpool looked on course for a comfortable victory when summer signing Hugo Ekitike scored twice in quick succession early in the second half. But a reckless challenge from Ibrahima Konaté handed Leeds a way back via the penalty spot, before more sloppy defending allowed Anton Stach and substitute Ao Tanaka to bring the game to 3–3.
The draw ramps up the pressure on Slot, whose future is already under intense scrutiny after a woeful run of form. Liverpool have managed just two wins in their last ten Premier League games and sit eighth in the table — a dramatic fall just months after lifting the title.
Despite the concerning trajectory, Slot insisted after the match that Liverpool played “quite well or very well” for large spells at Elland Road. He claimed the team were in full control at 2–0 and hadn’t allowed Leeds a genuine chance before conceding from the foul that led to the penalty.
“It’s not about me — it’s about us, about the fans,” he said. “The players have worked so hard, and to concede from a set-piece again — the 10th or 11th this season — it’s frustrating. To leave with a 3–3, I don’t think we deserved that.”
Slot added that the squad must look inward, as they are “the ones doing it.”
His remarks didn’t go down well with supporters, many of whom demanded more accountability and questioned his late defensive substitutions after Dominik Szoboszlai had restored Liverpool’s lead.
