Heartbreaking setback for Jon Moxley in AEW
Former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley suffered yet another major setback on the latest episode of Collision. The Purveyor of Violence has been struggling for months, and his momentum continues to spiral downward.
Since dropping the AEW World Title at All In Texas in July, Moxley’s second half of 2025 has been rough. He lost an “I Quit” match to Darby Allin at WrestleDream 2025, submitted in the Blood and Guts match, and was defeated by Kyle O’Reilly in a no-holds-barred bout at Full Gear 2025.
Moxley is currently competing in the 2025 Continental Classic. After beating Mascara Dorada in his first blue league match and then losing to Claudio Castagnoli, he entered his third bout against Konosuke Takeshita in the main event of Collision. Despite a hard-fought contest, Takeshita handed Moxley yet another loss. With the win, Takeshita moved to 6 points in the blue league, while Moxley remains stuck at 3. Given his recent string of failures, this latest defeat is a significant blow to the former world champion.
Former WWE Star Teases Moxley Being Replaced as Death Riders Leader
Adding to the turmoil, former WWE star Bryan Danielson recently hinted that Jon Moxley could lose his position as leader of the Death Riders. After Claudio Castagnoli defeated Moxley on last week’s Dynamite, Bryan commented on how Mox was seen as the leader of Blackpool Combat Club because no one could beat him.
While on commentary, Danielson pointed to Claudio’s victory as a sign that he could become the new leader of the Death Riders:
> “When we were in the Blackpool Combat Club together, I was never able to beat Moxley — that’s why we saw him as the leader. Claudio Castagnoli has just defeated Moxley!”
Considering his ongoing slump, Moxley’s spot in the Death Riders may indeed be at risk. For now, fans can only wait to see what the future holds for the faction.
