Liverpool standout accuses fellow players of approaching the match like it was finished

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was left frustrated after the team’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, hinting that some of his teammates believed the game was already won when they went 2-0 up.

Hugo Ekitike struck twice within two minutes early in the second half to hand Liverpool what should have been a comfortable advantage at Elland Road.

But Leeds fought back to level at 2-2. Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s lead with a well-taken goal, only for the home side to equalise again in stoppage time and snatch a point.

What Szoboszlai said after Leeds 3-3 Liverpool

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Szoboszlai didn’t hide his disappointment, suggesting the team eased off too early.

“I don’t know what happened,” the Hungarian said. “At 2-0, I think we felt like the game was already done.

“You can never underestimate the team you’re playing against.

“Maybe after the penalty they gained momentum … we reacted well to go ahead again, but conceding another set-piece goal is far from ideal.”

Liverpool’s season takes another hit

The draw leaves Liverpool in 8th place, ten points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s side have now conceded 24 goals in 15 Premier League matches—more than 15th-placed Fulham and only one fewer than relegation-battling Nottingham Forest.

While they are unbeaten in three, it’s still just two consecutive draws and only one win from their last six matches.

Liverpool now face Inter Milan away in the Champions League, followed by league games against Brighton at home and Tottenham away before Christmas.
