Liverpool’s Position on Mo Salah’s Future Clarified Following Explosive Interview
Liverpool’s troubled Premier League season took another hit on Saturday after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
Talismanic forward Mohamed Salah publicly revealed that his relationship with manager Arne Slot has broken down, following three consecutive matches on the bench. The Egyptian superstar suggested he has been unfairly singled out by the club, saying, “I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship… it feels like someone doesn’t want me here… the club has thrown me under the bus.”
Salah emphasized his loyalty to Liverpool, adding, “I will always support this club. I love it, and my kids will too. But the situation is not acceptable… I don’t think I’m the problem. I’ve earned my position, and I shouldn’t have to fight for it every day.”
Following these revelations, BBC Sport reports that Liverpool remain “open-minded” about Salah’s future, with interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Salah confirmed he had discussions with Saudi Pro League sides before signing his latest contract, indicating that he might have moved there if he hadn’t extended his stay at Anfield. Al-Hilal, the current club of his former teammate Darwin Núñez, is reportedly the leading contender, though no formal talks have taken place.
Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017, Salah has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances, making him one of the club’s most consistent performers. However, he has struggled this season, netting just four goals and two assists in 13 Premier League games. The 33-year-old is also set to miss part of the 2025/26 season while representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on December 15. The timing of this unrest comes just months after Salah signed a new two-year deal in April.
