Tottenham Set to Cut Ties With £68,750-Per-Week Player After Opening Investigation Into Off-Field Incident
Yves Bissouma’s future at Tottenham is in doubt after new footage surfaced of him inhaling nitrous oxide — a repeat of an offence that saw him suspended last year. The midfielder has struggled to impress under new manager Thomas Frank and has yet to play this season. Frank omitted him from the UEFA Super Cup squad against Paris Saint-Germain in August due to ongoing lateness issues, and an ankle injury has kept him sidelined since.
The latest disciplinary matter has now cast further uncertainty over his role at the club.
Tottenham Investigate Bissouma Incident
The club confirmed on Friday night that they have opened an investigation after video emerged showing Bissouma using a nitrous oxide balloon at a party. The substance carries risks such as neurological damage, memory loss, depression, hallucinations and more. The clip, published by The Sun, appears to have been recorded early on November 3. Bissouma has since removed all Tottenham references from his Instagram page.
This follows an incident last August when he posted a Snapchat video of himself inhaling “hippy crack”, which led to a suspension and a public apology for his poor judgement.
A Spurs spokesperson said of the new footage: “We are looking into the events and it will be handled internally.”
Tottenham Career Likely Over
This most recent off-field issue looks set to end Bissouma’s time at the club. Signed from Brighton for £60 million in 2022, he has made 100 appearances and scored twice. Now 29 and earning £68,750 per week, his contract expires next summer, though Spurs hold a one-year extension option.
Given the circumstances, Tottenham may choose not to keep him on — except perhaps to trigger the extension to secure a transfer fee.
Having yet to play under Frank, Bissouma may have already made his final appearance for the club. While capable of brilliance, Spurs supporters have rarely seen him at his best.
