Terence Crawford’s flawless 42-0 record says everything about his dominance. With every victory coming by knockout or unanimous decision, no opponent has ever looked close to beating the American star.
He made headlines in September when he leapt two divisions—from super welterweight to super middleweight—to defeat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and claim all four of his belts, handing the Mexican legend just the third loss of his career.
By conquering Canelo, Crawford joined an elite group of multi-division greats—Sugar Ray Leonard, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.—as a five-weight world champion. He also became the first male fighter in the four-belt era to be undisputed in three separate divisions.
With a résumé like that, many fans rank Crawford among the best pound-for-pound fighters ever, insisting he could beat anyone around his weight, past or present. But Crawford himself believes there’s one former champion who would pose a real threat.
Crawford Admits Which Fighter Would Trouble Him
“It’s crazy to say y’all never got to see me at my full potential because nobody pushed me there—I was knocking them out,” Crawford posted on X.
“I pay respect to the greats before me, but Floyd Mayweather would be the only one I’d have problems with because of his mind.”
Experts Back Crawford in a Fantasy Matchup
Canelo, the only man to have shared a ring with both Crawford and Mayweather, backed Crawford when asked about a hypothetical showdown. “I think Crawford is way better than Floyd Mayweather,” he told reporters after his loss to ‘Bud’.
Legendary promoter Bob Arum, who guided both fighters during their careers, offered a similar view. Speaking to ESNEWS, he said:
“Crawford beats Mayweather because facing someone his size is different. Crawford is totally ambidextrous—he’s just as dangerous orthodox or southpaw. That’s something most fighters don’t have.”
Fans will never get to see a real fight between two unbeaten all-time greats, but that hasn’t stopped the never-ending online debates about who would triumph if Crawford and Mayweather had ever met in the ring.
