There has been significant speculation surrounding the future of Guglielmo Vicario, though other reports suggest Tottenham are not looking to replace the Italian.

According to Dean Jones, Spurs are targeting a new goalkeeper to serve as Vicario’s understudy and take Antonin Kinsky’s spot in the squad.

Man City may not be willing to sell James Trafford to Tottenham

Manchester City’s James Trafford has previously been linked with a move to Spurs, especially as the Englishman has struggled for minutes following Gianluigi Donnarumma’s arrival at the Etihad.

However, journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that despite Trafford’s desire to leave, City are reluctant to part ways with their number two. Speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke said:

“Trafford isn’t happy right now because he’s playing second fiddle to Donnarumma. He wants to push for a place in England’s World Cup squad, but without regular minutes that becomes difficult. That’s why speculation over his future has intensified. Newcastle have admired him for a long time, Aston Villa have been mentioned due to uncertainty over Emiliano Martinez, and Spurs are also in the mix. But I just don’t see City letting him go in January. Even if he’s unhappy, they won’t want to weaken their goalkeeping options mid-season.”

Spurs may soon need a new number one

Tottenham could be forced to search for a first-choice goalkeeper in the summer if reports from Italy prove accurate. Some sources claim Vicario’s representatives are in talks with Inter Milan about a possible move to the San Siro, with the 29-year-old reportedly open to returning home at the end of the campaign.

Emi Martinez of Aston Villa has been mentioned as a potential replacement should Vicario depart. It has also been widely reported that Spurs are actively exploring the goalkeeper market ahead of the January transfer window.
