Liverpool’s recent struggles took an unexpected twist on Tuesday night when the club’s travelling supporters at the San Siro burst into chants backing under-fire manager Arne Slot during the Champions League match against Inter Milan.
According to Ian Doyle on X, Liverpool fans were heard singing Slot’s name in the opening moments of the game.
Their show of support came just ten minutes in, with the away section briefly breaking into a pro-Slot chant before returning to their usual repertoire. It was a rare and public display of solidarity for a manager currently facing heavy criticism and internal strain.

With tensions rising between Slot and star forward Mohamed Salah, the fans’ vocal support for the Dutch coach sent a strong message about where much of the Liverpool fanbase currently stands amid the club’s turmoil.
Slot has been under mounting pressure due to Liverpool’s recent poor form and his public rift with Salah. The Egyptian forward was omitted from the Champions League squad for the Inter match, a decision that made global headlines and intensified concerns over the dressing-room dynamic.
Yet the reaction from the travelling Reds indicates that many fans still trust Slot’s direction for the team.
Salah now needs to win the supporters back
The chants, though short-lived, rang around the away end early in the first half and carried a tone of defiance — a signal that supporters are not ready to turn on Slot in a difficult moment.
Their mood only improved as Liverpool came away with a 1–0 victory, sealed by a late Dominik Szoboszlai penalty.
The fallout between Salah and Slot has dominated the news in the days leading up to the match. Salah publicly criticised the club’s decisions, saying he had been “thrown under the bus” after being benched recently.
