Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson focused on promoting togetherness in the wake of Mo Salah’s heated comments after the Leeds match.

The Egyptian star has suddenly found himself pushed to the fringes of the squad, left out entirely as Liverpool earned a 1–0 win over Inter Milan. Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the victory at the San Siro with a well-taken late penalty.

Andy Robertson hopes to continue playing alongside Salah

Robertson spoke warmly about Liverpool’s iconic No. 11 despite Salah being excluded from the matchday squad.

“It’s obviously a difficult situation,” the Scotland defender told Amazon Prime. “We’re talking about one of the greatest players this club has ever had. He’s been incredible for us for more than eight years.”

He added, “Whatever’s going on will be handled internally. What matters is that we’re united in the dressing room, and I think that was clear today.”

Asked if Salah could still return to action, Robertson responded: “That’s for others to decide, not me. But I love playing with Mo and I hope that continues.”

Salah’s role for Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton now remains uncertain.

Virgil van Dijk stays measured on Salah issue

Van Dijk also declined to criticise Salah publicly when speaking after the final whistle. The captain stressed that the squad had been fully focused on the Inter clash and on securing an important win.

“It’s tough, of course, but this is something we’re all dealing with,” he told Amazon Prime. “There are things happening between Mo and the club, and as a result he wasn’t here to help us tonight.

“But it doesn’t change our determination to get results for Liverpool.”

He continued, “I’m not the person to say whether anyone needs to apologise. He’s expressed how he feels over the last few days — that’s something the club and I have to handle too.

“But from what I’ve seen, nothing in the dressing room has changed. Our responsibility is to the club and fans worldwide to perform.”

Van Dijk also noted that Salah had trained with the squad after the Leeds incident.

Arne Slot comments on the Salah situation

Manager Arne Slot’s view was unsurprisingly in the spotlight. The Dutchman offered a revealing remark when asked about the possibility of reintegrating the 33-year-old.

Pressed by Clarence Seedorf on Amazon Prime, Slot said: “You say everyone makes mistakes, so the first question is: Does the player think he made a mistake?

“I never said I wouldn’t speak to him.

“The next question is: Should I make the first move, or should he? That’s what needs to be considered.”
