Liverpool remain intent on keeping Mohamed Salah at Anfield until his contract expires, despite mounting rumours about his future and his unexpected exclusion from the Champions League squad to face Inter Milan on Tuesday.

The choice to leave Salah out of the travelling group was made jointly by manager Arne Slot and the club’s board, amid continued friction between the Egyptian star and members of the coaching staff.

Now 33, Salah — a central figure in Liverpool’s success over the past decade — suddenly finds himself on the periphery of the team during one of the club’s most turbulent periods in recent memory.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are not considering a sale and intend to keep Salah for the full duration of his current deal.

Despite the ongoing drama, Liverpool’s position has not shifted: Fenway Sports Group (FSG) do not want to sell Salah in the January window and are committed to him seeing out his contract, which runs until 2027.

Club executives reportedly still see Salah as vital to Liverpool’s global profile and commercial power, even as Slot’s tactical approach has complicated the forward’s role in the team.

Salah’s omission comes after several disputes—both behind closed doors and in public—between him and Slot, the most notable being Salah’s fiery interview after the 3–3 draw with Leeds United, in which he suggested certain people at the club had “thrown him under the bus.”

Leadership wants both Slot and Salah to remain

Nonetheless, sources say Liverpool’s hierarchy continues to back Slot strongly while also aiming to manage the Salah issue carefully to avoid creating further unrest within the squad.

The impasse has reignited interest from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal again monitoring Salah’s situation closely.

Whether the conflict can be resolved remains uncertain, but one thing is undeniable: Liverpool are not prepared to let one of their greatest modern players leave without a fight.
