Guglielmo Vicario highlights the key area Tottenham need to improve ahead of their clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs secured a second straight home victory after putting three unanswered goals past Slavia Prague. The win keeps Tottenham firmly in the battle for a top-eight finish in the Champions League, maintaining their perfect home record in the competition without conceding.
There were plenty of positives from Tuesday’s performance, but one senior Tottenham player felt there was still room for improvement.
Guglielmo Vicario believes Spurs could have won by a wider margin
Vicario was pleased to earn another three points and stay on track for a top-eight place, which guarantees a direct route to the round of 16. However, the 29-year-old admitted the team lost some control late in the match and could have boosted their goal difference with more composure.
He told TNT Sports: “We proved what we can do two days before this game. We did well for 60 minutes, but we need a bit more composure across 90 minutes. I felt that if we were calmer, the result could’ve been better, and goal difference matters in this league phase. But we’re still aiming for the top eight.
“They had shots from distance, they press aggressively and go man-to-man all over the pitch. If you miss a pass or lose a second ball, we become a bit open. Their style is to open teams up.
“Three important points and we move on. Two more games in the league phase, and Dortmund next will be tough.”
Vicario urges Spurs to maintain their momentum
Just a couple of weeks ago, the mood around the club was bleak, with tension growing between supporters and players. But a gritty draw at Newcastle followed by two straight wins has lifted spirits, and Vicario wants Tottenham to keep building on this run.
When asked about a shift in momentum, he said: “Probably, I hope so. We are judged every three days, and football can change quickly in a good or bad way.
“We have to keep momentum. You need balance whether things are going well or badly. If the result is good, everyone is happy, but we must stay calm, focused, and try to do our best.”
