Dominic Solanke’s spell at Tottenham Hotspur has been hampered by injuries, limiting his appearances since arriving in north London. His first season was disrupted by several fitness setbacks that kept him out for long periods, and this campaign has followed a similar pattern.

The forward has yet to start a Premier League match under new manager Thomas Frank after suffering an ankle injury in August that has sidelined him for months. As the year draws to a close, an issue once thought to be minor has turned into a much longer absence.

Solanke recently shared an update on social media, posting a photo of himself training with an hourglass emoji, hinting that his return may be getting closer. Frank has now addressed the player’s fitness, confirming that Solanke has taken a key step by resuming individual outdoor training.

Speaking to football.london about the post, Frank said: “I guess it is good news when he puts that out there. As I’ve said with Dom, because it’s an injury he picked up in July, it has dragged on for a while. When he’s training fully, I’ll have news. I’m happy to answer these questions, but I am getting a little bored of them.”

Spurs coping but not flourishing without Solanke

Tottenham have managed Solanke’s absence due to the availability of Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani. Kolo Muani had an early injury setback this season but has since returned and contributed well. Richarlison, who often struggles with injuries, has stayed fit so far and is Spurs’ top Premier League scorer with six goals.
