(Video) Liverpool supporters at Anfield left no doubt about their stance when Mohamed Salah was introduced from the bench.

If there was any lingering uncertainty about how Anfield regulars would respond to Mohamed Salah’s return after last weekend’s remarks, it was emphatically settled just before 3:30pm on Saturday.

The Egyptian had been left out of the squad that travelled to Italy for Liverpool’s Champions League win over Inter Milan in midweek, but he was reinstated to the matchday group for the Premier League meeting with Brighton at Anfield.

Although the 33-year-old was named on the bench for a fourth successive league game, he was called upon far sooner than anticipated.

Anfield’s reaction to Salah’s introduction

Joe Gomez, who had provided the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s opener inside the first minute, was forced off injured after just 25 minutes. Salah was the man chosen to replace him, with Dominik Szoboszlai dropping into the right-back role.

As Salah’s name echoed around the stadium, the near-60,000 supporters inside Anfield responded with a thunderous roar, offering a clear show of support for Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.

Reds fans back Salah and Slot

Despite attempts in some quarters of the media to frame the situation as a rift between Salah and head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool’s match-going supporters have continued to show strong backing for both figures.

Slot’s name was chanted loudly during the midweek win at the San Siro, and on Saturday the winger received a rapturous welcome when he replaced Gomez, removing any doubt over how Kopites felt about the 33-year-old.

True to form, Salah quickly became involved after entering the pitch, driving forward from the middle of the park before feeding Alexis Mac Allister, whose attempted pass to Ekitike was intercepted when a shot might have been on.

To the Anfield faithful, Mo Salah remains very much the Egyptian King.
