The injury also effectively ends any realistic chance of the forward securing a January move. Under-21s coach Rob Page had recently suggested that continued consistency would attract interest, noting that “there will be people at the door to take him.” Those comments seemed timely given Gordon’s upward trajectory.
His development had also been acknowledged by Ian Doyle, who reported that Jürgen Klopp “really likes him,” highlighting the high regard in which the former Derby County player has been held under multiple managers.
What lies ahead for Gordon
With attacking options already limited and Gordon having been around the first team, this setback will feel particularly disappointing for both the club and the England youth international. He featured as a substitute in the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in October and was hoping to earn further senior opportunities.
Instead, another period of rehabilitation awaits — a frustrating recurrence for a player who had been showing the sharpness and belief that once marked him as a potential future regular at Anfield. However, his message ended on a defiant note: “I will be back,” and there is hope that this latest setback will not derail a career that has consistently shown elite promise.
