Tottenham Could Outmaneuver Liverpool and Man United to Secure a Record-Breaking Signing with a Masterstroke Decision
Tottenham could gain an advantage over Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United in the January transfer window by moving early to sign Antoine Semenyo.
The Bournemouth forward has enjoyed an outstanding season, registering 11 goals and three assists so far. Only Erling Haaland and Brentford’s Igor Thiago have scored more, while just nine players across the league have provided more assists. His form has placed him firmly among the standout performers in the division.
As a result, Semenyo is expected to be one of the most discussed names when the January window opens, not only because of his performances but also due to the significant valuation attached to him.
Although Semenyo would command a major fee, his contract includes a release clause that is likely to attract interest from several top clubs. The 25-year-old, who has remained in England following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 21 years, is understood to be on the radar of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Reports indicate that Tottenham may also revisit a move for Manchester City winger Savinho if they are unable to reach an agreement for Semenyo.
Semenyo’s Bournemouth contract contains a £65 million release clause that can be triggered in January, but it is only active during the first two weeks of the transfer window. This limited timeframe means any club hoping to secure his signature would need to act quickly.
Semenyo previously attracted strong interest last summer but ultimately committed his future to Bournemouth by signing a new deal that included the release clause. That decision was heavily influenced by head coach Andoni Iraola, under whom the Cherries have played an expansive, attacking style of football.
Speaking about Iraola, Semenyo explained that he believed the manager had a clear plan for the squad and felt the team could build on the strong finish to the previous season. He praised Iraola’s approach, describing it as relentless and highlighting how fully the squad has embraced his tactical philosophy.
A move for Semenyo would represent a major financial commitment for Tottenham. The club have only paid £65 million for a single player once before, when they signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. That deal was structured with £55 million paid up front and a further £10 million in add-ons, and a similar fee for Semenyo would make him Tottenham’s most expensive signing.
Tottenham do have the financial capacity to complete such a deal, having previously received assurances of significant investment from their owners, ENIC, to strengthen the squad.
Despite the growing speculation surrounding his future, Semenyo has remained focused on his performances for Bournemouth. He has stated that he is concentrating on his football, enjoying his time at the club and leaving any decisions about the future to take care of themselves.
His displays have earned widespread praise, with team-mate Justin Kluivert describing him as world-class, while former Tottenham player Chris Waddle labelled him the best winger in the Premier League earlier this season.
With the January window approaching, and a narrow opportunity to activate his release clause, Semenyo’s future is set to be a major talking point as several clubs prepare to compete for his signature.
