Tottenham Hotspur were forced to play with ten men during their Premier League meeting with Liverpool following a costly moment from Xavi Simons.
In the 32nd minute, the midfielder charged in on Virgil van Dijk while trying to win back possession, but ended up catching the Liverpool captain with a studs-up stamp from his left foot.
Van Dijk was left in visible discomfort, and although the referee initially produced a yellow card, VAR intervened and advised a review.
After checking the incident on the pitchside monitor, the official upgraded the punishment to a straight red card.
