Arne Slot raises concern over Alexander Isak’s injury against Tottenham

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot offered little encouragement when addressing Alexander Isak’s injury in his post-match press conference following the win over Tottenham.

Slot did commend Isak for his impact off the bench, as the Sweden international scored with a composed finish after being picked out by a smart pass from Florian Wirtz. However, the positive moment was quickly overshadowed when Isak went down in clear pain straight after scoring and was unable to continue, extending his frustrating run of injury problems since arriving at Anfield.

Speaking after the match, Slot admitted it is rarely a positive sign when a player cannot even attempt to play on. He pointed out that Conor Bradley had tried to continue before eventually being substituted, while Isak was forced to leave the pitch immediately. That said, Slot also stressed that there was no definitive medical diagnosis available at the time.

Since joining Liverpool from Newcastle United in the summer, Isak’s time at the club has been disrupted largely by fitness issues. A disrupted pre-season has made it difficult for the 26-year-old to build momentum, and against Spurs he was also on the receiving end of a heavy challenge, even though he still managed to find the net.

The goal was exactly the kind Isak needed to lift his confidence, and Liverpool supporters will be hoping the injury proves to be minor so he can return quickly and maintain his recent upturn in form.
