Liverpool are reportedly ready to table a £53m bid for a Tottenham standout, a move that could force Spurs to rethink their transfer strategy.

Liverpool are said to have lodged a €60m (£53m) bid for Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall ahead of the January transfer window.

After a slow start to the campaign, the Reds are beginning to build momentum, with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Spurs marking their third straight victory in all competitions. Despite spending more than £400m last summer following a dominant Premier League title win in Arne Slot’s debut season, Liverpool have not pulled clear this term and currently sit ten points behind leaders Arsenal.

Much of the speculation around Anfield has focused on potential reinforcements in defence and attack, with names such as Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi frequently mentioned. However, Spanish outlet Fichajes claims Liverpool have now turned their attention to Bergvall, submitting a substantial offer for the 19-year-old.

Bergvall has rotated in and out of Thomas Frank’s starting XI this season, but Tottenham are reportedly weighing up the proposal. While Spurs are reluctant to sell and view him as a key part of their future, the report suggests an offer of this size could force a rethink. The €60m fee would give the club room to strengthen multiple areas and improve their financial flexibility, though it would also mean losing one of their most promising young talents.

Liverpool are said to have made Bergvall a priority target, seeing the move as a natural step for a young player with Premier League experience and significant upside. Talks between the two clubs are believed to be at an early stage, but Tottenham have not completely ruled out a deal, with Liverpool confident their bid could prove persuasive.

The Swedish midfielder has drawn high praise in recent seasons. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola previously described him as “unstoppable,” while former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou spoke glowingly after Bergvall signed a new long-term contract. Postecoglou highlighted the teenager’s rapid adaptation to the Premier League, his work ethic, and his ability to seize opportunities, noting that he remains a regular selection even with a near full squad available.
