What Manchester United players did inside the Anfield dressing room after their win should haunt Arne Slot’s Liverpool side

Manchester United’s players were fully justified in celebrating their memorable win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Ruben Amorim’s side recorded back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time under his management, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire securing a 2-1 triumph despite Cody Gakpo’s second-half equaliser.
United players salute Maguire in the dressing room
Having claimed their first league victory at Anfield in nearly a decade, it’s no surprise United’s dressing room was filled with jubilation at full-time. The win not only narrowed the gap to Liverpool to just two points — and left them a single point off the top four — but also sent a clear message that Amorim’s side are finding form.
Inside the away dressing room, match-winner Harry Maguire received a round of applause from his teammates in recognition of his crucial contribution to the historic victory.
To be fair, United’s players had every right to celebrate such a result at Anfield. However, for Liverpool, it marks a low point — a fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, capped off by losing to this Manchester United team and to a Maguire winner, of all people.
This wasn’t a fierce title-race battle with Arsenal or Manchester City — it was Liverpool versus United, and the Reds once again came up short.
Where did it all go wrong for Arne Slot’s side?
There’s no single reason behind Liverpool’s decline, as the problems now appear to be piling up. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher criticised Virgil van Dijk for being “carried” by Ibrahima Konaté, while Milos Kerkez has struggled at left-back — though arguably due to being played out of position.
Up front, Liverpool’s world-class attackers have also gone cold. Four big chances missed and three shots hitting the woodwork tell their own story.
Call it unlucky if you want — but after four straight defeats, optimism is wearing thin around Anfield.
