Jurgen Klopp has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Liverpool as head coach in the future.

The German tactician left Anfield in the summer of 2024 after an eight-and-a-half-year spell, during which he guided the Reds to a third-place Premier League finish in his final season. He was succeeded by former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.

Speaking recently, Klopp admitted a comeback could happen — though he didn’t sound particularly eager to step back into the dugout anytime soon.

“I said I would never coach another team in England, so that means if I ever do – it’s Liverpool. So, yes, theoretically, it’s possible,” the 58-year-old said.

For now, however, Klopp insists he is enjoying his current role and has no desire to return to management.
“I love what I do right now. I don’t miss coaching, standing in the rain, or doing press conferences. I’ve managed over a thousand games — I don’t need to die in a dressing room,” he joked.

“I’m 58, so I could make a decision in a few years, but I don’t have to now. I’ll just see what the future brings.”

Arne Slot faces pressure after poor run

Klopp’s remarks come at an awkward time for current Liverpool boss Arne Slot, whose side suffered a fourth straight defeat — a 2-1 home loss to Manchester United.

Of course, Klopp couldn’t have foreseen Liverpool’s slump, but his comments have inevitably reignited speculation about a potential return.

Despite recent struggles, Klopp praised Slot for his achievements, particularly leading Liverpool to the 2024/25 Premier League title.

“It’s not about Arne showing the world what he can do — it’s about getting the best out of this team, and that’s exactly what he did,” Klopp said. “He made a few key changes, and suddenly they were champions. That’s incredible work.”

Still, Liverpool’s current form raises serious concerns. Four consecutive defeats are unacceptable for a club of their stature, and Slot now faces major decisions regarding tactics and personnel if he’s to rescue the Reds’ 2025/26 title defence.

Despite creating plenty of chances — including five big ones against Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United — stars like Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo have all failed to deliver in front of goal, leaving Liverpool exposed both in attack and defence.
