Two Liverpool stars singled out for blame over Man United’s opening goal

Manchester United silenced Anfield just two minutes into their Premier League showdown as Bryan Mbeumo’s strike gave them an early advantage — capitalising on defensive lapses from Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.

The opener came from a slick United attack, with Bruno Fernandes feeding Amad Diallo, who cleverly flicked the ball through for Mbeumo to burst into the box and slot past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool’s backline, already under fire after leaking nine goals in six games without a clean sheet, once again folded under pressure.

Van Dijk’s poorly timed challenge on teammate Alexis Mac Allister disrupted the defensive shape, leaving him unable to recover, while Konaté was caught flat-footed and failed to react as Mbeumo exploited the space to score.
