Liverpool’s Premier League-winning star is reportedly harbouring renewed doubts about manager Arne Slot.

Andy Robertson is reportedly uncertain about his long-term future at Liverpool under Arne Slot, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The Dutch manager, who joined the Reds from Feyenoord last summer, has largely preferred new signing Milos Kerkez as his first-choice left-back.

Talks are said to be ongoing between Liverpool and the Scotland captain, whose current deal runs until 2026.

Robertson’s Liverpool future in question

There were serious concerns during the summer that Robertson could be on his way to mainland Europe. However, it was Kostas Tsimikas who eventually left on loan to Roma, leaving Robertson and Kerkez to compete for the left-back spot this season.

It was viewed as the right call at the time, though the decision has yet to fully pay off. Robertson has featured for only 117 minutes in the Premier League so far, reigniting speculation about a possible move to Atletico Madrid.

Robertson vs Kerkez – Slot’s left-back dilemma

As noted by Sam McGuire of Sporting Life, Slot faces a major tactical decision. Robertson brings leadership and Premier League pedigree, but he’s no longer the relentless, high-energy fullback of earlier seasons.

Kerkez, meanwhile, offers pace, drive, and attacking output – if given the freedom to play naturally. The Hungarian impressed at Bournemouth last season, creating nearly one chance per 90 minutes.

McGuire argues that Kerkez is being limited by being asked to play the same role Robertson occupied last season, which doesn’t suit his natural style. If Liverpool aren’t improving defensively or offensively with this setup, Slot must make a choice: either restore full trust in Robertson or unleash Kerkez as an attacking left-back.

Liverpool’s next step

To rival Arsenal and other top sides, Liverpool must play to their attacking strengths. They have the firepower to be one of the most potent teams in England — but only if their system allows their creative fullbacks to thrive.

That could mean adjusting the setup, perhaps with Ryan Gravenberch dropping into a deeper role to help in build-up play.

If those changes eventually lead to Robertson departing for Atletico Madrid next summer, it would be a painful goodbye to a club legend — but perhaps a necessary one for Liverpool’s evolution under Arne Slot.
