Jamie Carragher calls on Arne Slot to show the authority of a Real Madrid boss following Liverpool’s busy transfer window.

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s record-breaking summer spending has completely altered what it means to be the club’s manager.

Speaking before the clash with Manchester United, the former Reds defender said Arne Slot must now approach his role like a Real Madrid boss — at least temporarily.

“They’ve brought in a lot of players, and that’s created a few problems for the manager,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “When you’ve spent that much money, you have to make it work and find a way to fit those players in. The idea that Florian Wirtz wouldn’t start most weeks just doesn’t make sense. Slot has to find a solution.”

Carragher compared Liverpool’s transfer activity to that of Real Madrid, saying, “The summer Liverpool just had was Real Madrid-like — not what we’re used to seeing from Liverpool. When I played and even under Klopp, the club didn’t usually go out and buy the best players on the market for huge fees. But that’s exactly what happened this time.”

“Alexander Isak was probably the best striker available, and Wirtz the best No.10 — and Liverpool paid big for both. That’s what Real Madrid do, and then managers like Del Bosque or Ancelotti have to make it work with what they’re given. That’s the situation Arne Slot is in now.”

Carragher concluded, “It’s been a Real Madrid-style summer at Liverpool, and Slot might need to manage like a Real Madrid coach — focusing less on system and more on getting the team functioning and performing at its best.”
