Liverpool’s position on a new deal for Arne Slot
Transfer insider Dean Jones has reported that Liverpool fully intend to open talks with Arne Slot regarding a new contract in the coming months. Despite the club suffering four consecutive defeats, their stance on the Dutchman’s future remains unchanged.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, Jones revealed:
“I’ve heard that Liverpool have already made early contact to begin more formal discussions about a contract extension. It’s a gradual process expected to develop further as the season progresses.
> “There’s no rush since his current deal runs until the summer of 2027, but ideally, they’d like to have clarity by the end of this season.
> “Liverpool view this as a long-term project, potentially similar to the eras of Jurgen Klopp or Rafa Benitez. Of course, results will influence how long Slot stays, but the club isn’t panicking over the recent dip in form. They’re standing by him and hope things turn around soon so they can confidently secure his future.”
Why a contract extension still looks likely
Slot has faced greater scrutiny amid Liverpool’s recent slump, with former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown suggesting he could soon be “under pressure.”
However, in modern football—where managerial changes are often swift—even champions aren’t immune, as seen with Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal at Leicester. Still, Slot retains significant backing after his impressive first season at Anfield, and a few positive results would silence any speculation about his position.
As Jones noted, there’s ample time for Liverpool to finalise new terms, and unless the season completely unravels, an extension by next summer appears the most likely outcome.
Like the recent negotiations involving Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, discussions over a new deal may take time, but all indications suggest that Slot will sign an improved contract with Liverpool in the near future.
