Liverpool prepared to splash €85M on Premier League standout this January
Liverpool are considering a January swoop for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo as both cover for Mohamed Salah during AFCON and as a long-term attacking reinforcement on the right flank.
A key factor in the move is Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON, meaning Semenyo will remain available while Salah leads Egypt—a detail that has reportedly pushed the winger high up Arne Slot’s transfer list.
However, Liverpool face stiff competition. Manchester United and Tottenham monitored Semenyo over the summer, while Chelsea have also been linked. His new contract, signed in July, is believed to include a £75 million release clause, and whether Liverpool opt to trigger it outright or negotiate structured payments could determine how quickly a deal progresses.
From a footballing standpoint, Semenyo fits the profile perfectly. He brings pace, relentless pressing, and goal threat from either flank, with the versatility to operate centrally when needed. His excellent start to the season has only strengthened Liverpool’s belief that he can immediately compete for Salah’s spot and play a major role in the future.
Bournemouth are expected to resist mid-season offers, having already turned down bids in the past. Still, Liverpool’s strong relationship with the south coast club—following the Milos Kerkez deal—and the player’s potential desire for a move to a Champions League side could help facilitate talks.
If the financials align, Semenyo could be the ideal signing to maintain Liverpool’s attacking intensity during Salah’s AFCON absence—and elevate the squad upon his return.
