Ally McCoist warns Jeremie Frimpong may be sidelined for up to six weeks following Liverpool’s early injury setback.
Liverpool suffered an early setback in Frankfurt as Jeremie Frimpong limped off injured within the opening 20 minutes, and Ally McCoist fears the explosive right-back could face up to six weeks on the sidelines.
The Dutch defender, a summer arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, appeared to pull his hamstring after a sprint down the flank. Despite receiving quick treatment, he was unable to continue and was replaced by Conor Bradley.
Commentating live on TNT Sports, McCoist expressed concern:
“I’m wondering if it’s his calf or hamstring,” he said, noting Frimpong’s reaction. “If it’s a tear, that could be around six weeks. I was never quick enough to fully tear mine—it was more three or four—but for the fast lads, it’s usually longer.”
Co-commentator Darren Fletcher added that “the general consensus is a minimum of four weeks,” raising fears that Arne Slot may be facing another injury problem to manage.
Frimpong’s blistering speed has been crucial to Liverpool’s attacking rhythm this season, offering width and penetration down the right. His absence could disrupt the team’s balance and force tactical adjustments.
It’s the second injury setback of the season for the 24-year-old, who also missed time in August with a separate issue.
Despite the blow, Liverpool went into the break 3–1 ahead through goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, and Ibou Konaté—showing the resilience that characterized last season’s title-winning form.
However, McCoist’s on-air comments underline growing concern as Liverpool await medical tests to determine the severity of Frimpong’s injury. If confirmed as a significant layoff, Slot may be forced to reshape his right side once again.
