Mohamed Salah infuriates Florian Wirtz with a key moment during Liverpool’s victory.

Liverpool ended their four-match losing streak with an emphatic comeback victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The game began poorly for the Reds as Rasmus Kristensen put the Bundesliga side ahead early on. However, Liverpool quickly regained control, with former Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike equalising in the 35th minute. Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté, both from corners, turned the game around before halftime, giving Liverpool a 3–1 lead.

In the second half, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai added further goals to complete a 5–1 rout. Mohamed Salah, introduced from the bench, had the opportunity to extend the lead but chose to shoot from a tight angle rather than pass to Florian Wirtz, who was well-positioned for an easy finish.

The Egyptian’s decision angered Wirtz, who threw his arms up in frustration after goalkeeper Michael Zetterer made the save. The incident drew significant reaction from fans on social media. One user on X remarked, “Twice in four days Salah refuses to square it for Wirtz’s tap-in. So poor.” Another added, “That’s greedy from Salah — Wirtz was right there for his first goal.” Others criticised Salah for being “selfish” and “costing Wirtz a 3 G/A game.”

Despite not scoring, Wirtz made a strong impact by registering two assists — his first contributions in a Liverpool shirt — setting up Gakpo and Szoboszlai after coming off the bench. The young midfielder will hope his performance convinces manager Arne Slot to restore him to the starting lineup when Liverpool face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
